Did you know that every page on the web has a rank? Have you checked your web page rank? This rank, by Google, is called Page Rank, or PR and it is essentially a measure of how important a web page is.

Follow up:

The importance of a web page is determined by a combination of the number and quality of links pointing to that page. So, in simple terms a web page that has 100 links pointing to it is regarded as far more important that a web page that has 10 links pointing to it, unless the 10 links are of very high quality.

Quality is before quantity in PageRank. A link to a site is like a vote of Authority and the more important the site that is linking, the more weight that link will have.

(The higher quality the link is) Page rank is on a scale of 0 -10 where 0 is the lowest Page rank and 10 is the highest. The scale is not linear, so it is much easier to get from PageRank 0 up to PageRank 4, than it is to get from PageRank 4 to PageRank 5. You can check your PageRank by using some tools such as Google toolbar, Seoquake from Mozilla, or another PageRank Checker. Just type “pagerank checker” on Google and you will find many of them.

Remember that Pagerank is just a measurement, which can be pretty inaccurate because of the infrequent updates by Google, and that it does not affect your search engine rankings.
About the Author:
